Creating an ADSI Linked Server

I am having quite a bit of difficulty setting up a linked server with ADSI.
I have used the code list in the various MSDN and BOL articles
(sp_addlinkedserver...) but any queries return the following error:
Server: Msg 7321, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
An error occurred while preparing a query for execution against OLE DB
provider 'ADSDSOObject'.
OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'ADSDSOObject' ICommandPrepare::Prepare
returned 0x80040e14].
I know I am missing some key piece in my linked server set up here. Any
information would be appreciated.

There are quite a few posts for this error message!

Have specified created a mapping for the logins using sp_addlinkedsrvlogin?

CreateSubscription with a shared schedule

In BOL I read that The valid values for the EventType argument of CreateSubscription are TimedSubscription or SnapshotUpdated.
What if I want to use an existing shared schedule, which in the reportserver database appears as type SharedSchedule? Do I still use TimedSubscription?
And how can I serialize the schedule object in order to get the xml used in CreateSubscription attribute MatchData?
In other words, how do I use an existing shared schedule with CreateSubscription? Are there any other examples, apart from the one in BOL?Try to send the SbuscriptionID of your shared schedule in the matchdata
parameter (without any XML tag)

the eventType and the schedule ID for the match data. You can get the
schedule ID by calling listSchedules.

CreateSubscription Error

I am trying to create an email subscription programmatically, so I first followed the BOL example which worked ok.
Later I tried to replace the fixed ExtensionParams array of the example with a call to the web service method GetExtensionSettings, where, for the desired delivery extension, a parameter array would first be dynamically filled with the required parameter names by the web service and then I would only have to supply the respective parameter values.
After that change, the call to the method CreateSubscription does not work, as it doesnt recognize a SendEmailToUserAlias=True parameter which is now also used for the call.
Why is that? Some properties returned by the GetExtensionSettings method are marked as
read-only and can not be passed back in during CreateSubscription calls.
